Maybe This Summer – Jennifer Snow

Always a wingman . . .

Owen McConnell is used to being ignored. After all, it’s only when he appears as the Colorado Avalanche’s team mascot that he gets all the attention. When the costume is off, women tend to gravitate toward his famous hockey player friends. But after he meets lovely, damaged Paige Adams, he knows he can be the star player for her. She’s raising funds for the hospital burn unit, and Owen’s determined to help her out—and sweep her off her feet.

The burn unit has been near and dear to Paige’s heart ever since the doctors helped her after a vicious attack. Yet the scars—both emotional and physical—haven’t faded as much as she’d hoped. She’s closed herself off from relationships, and the thought of opening up is terrifying. But Owen’s sexy charm might be just the push Paige needs to start loving again.

My review

Maybe This Book is actually very cute. But Maybe This Book was a little short (since it was a novella). And Maybe That’s Why it doesn’t get five stars from me.

In short: Maybe This Summer is a sweet and short story about Owen McConnell, the P&R guy for the Colorado Avalanche’s hockey team, who has an alter ego as Bernie, the team mascot. Owen is used to be surrounded by famous hockey players, who receive all the attention. For instance, his best friend Ben Westmore, who isn’t single any more, since Maybe This Love…

When Owen meets Paige, he is determined to get to know her better. But Paige tries to maintain a professional distance. And this is where the story Maybe is a bit thin. After one meeting Owen decides that Paige is the one for him. And he starts his pursuit of her. But Paige is scarred, not only physically but also mentally. And she tries her best to keep Owen at an arms length.

For me, it was a bit over the top in how Owen decided directly that Paige was the one. For the rest of the story, the characters were absolute lovely and the way how Owen tries to persuade Paige to go out with him are definitely hilarious. Especially when Owen gets stuck between his blind date and his drink with Paige.

The story invites you to read the rest of the Colorado Ice series, to see how the Westmore brothers (and sister) meet the loves of their lives. So four out of five stars from me. With a special thank you to Forever Yours and Netgalley for providing the arc.
